"Magical Mohawk chant, cello and song by Dawn Avery reflecting contemporary Native American life."

World-class, award winning Mohawk artist, Dawn Avery is pleased to share her latest project with you. The enclosed Demo was recorded in Santa Fe, New Mexico with Grammy award winning producer, Larry Mitchell, whose ethereal and electrifying guitar layers helped to create some of Ms. Avery’s most poignant work of her career. This recording of NATIVE CELLO features three songs recently composed by Dawn which showcase the strength of her voice and the sensuality of her cello playing:

v  Behind the Mask – a haunting melody honoring the Iroquois Medicine Society- it touches listeners with thoughts of healing and mortality

v  I Know This Land a powerfully uplifting song describing the fundamental importance of the land to us all

v  Non:wa Tiotkon  (Now, Always)mostly instrumental, this atmospheric piece was written for award winning potter, Nora Naranjo-Morse, and her community voices project with the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian

Additional songs proposed for the project include: We’re Still Alive, Stained Glass, Change Gonna Come, Flame, Water Body, a Mohawk version of Amazing Grace, & a remix of Iroquois lullaby Ho Ho Watanay.
