“Ut queant laxis” is a contemporary arrangement of the Gregorian chant of the same name. Also known as “Hymnus in loannem” it was written in honor of John the Baptist. In the eleventh century, Guido Arezza used the first syllable of each phrase “ut, re, mi, fa, sol, la” creating the notational system of solmization, better known as solfege.
